Saying Goodbye to Drop in Classes

Updated: Oct 10

You know what they say, "When a door closes another one opens?"

Recently the studio said goodbye to drop-in classes. For a Pilates studio (that based most of it's business plan on classes) this is a huge deal! And I have to tell you: I am so excited for this move.

I know it is going to be one of the best decisions I have made for the studio.

Drop in classes are going away.

But there are still ways you can work out in a group.

Here are two options:

  1. Get matched up with a partner (or partners) and come to a semi private.

  2. Sign up for a 5-week apparatus series and work out group style

It might seem like a big change... it is! It is going to be such a big improvement.

Here's the thing: Drop in classes aren't the best product. Time and time again I've seen how my semi-private clients have improved consistently faster and more thoroughly than class comers.

Why is that?

A semi-private isn't just a reformer class, or a 1/2 mat, 1/2 reformer class, like how classes are set up. Semi-private appointments are tailored solely to the individual needs of the group.

We tend to mix it up more. Working out with the same partner (or partners) consistently gives you a program that you will progress from more quickly. Working out with a partner/s with similar needs and leveling also means that your work out will be at the most appropriate level for you.

It really is just a better product and a better experience of a more well rounded Pilates system.

The 5-week series has a lot of similar benefits to a semi-private match. The difference between a series and a semi-private is that you are coming together with (usually) a group of strangers (you can always bring your friends).

The 5-week series really works best for people who are new to Pilates and are focusing on much of the basics, ie. learning the apparatus, the exercises, gaining strength and finding stability.

Who knows? As this new model unfolds the 5-week series might even develop themes of their own. I can't wait to see what is in store next.

So if you're checking out the studio and looking for classes,

I can't believe I'm saying this: There are none!

But I hope you'll check out some of the other offerings and give it a chance.

If you've ever done Pilates in any form before you know Pilates is an unconventional kind of workout. Is it any surprise that the way we workout might be unconventional too?
